    On June 17, 2026, NVTA hosted the Best Workplaces for Commuters 2027 Opening Day Celebration.  BWC was pleased to celebrate this event in Virginia, recognizing the state as #1 in the nation for BWC members and were able to spotlight Virginia guest speakers as well as feature videos from BWC members and partners sharing their experience with BWC.

    Opening Day marks the beginning of the application season for the 2027 BWC List, which will also commemorate the twenty-year anniversary of BWC at CUTR.

    National recognition program invites employers, universities, commercial sites, and residential communities to lead the future of commuter-friendly transportation

    TAMPA, Fla., June 1, 2026 — Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC™), the national authority in recognizing organizations that excel in providing innovative commuter benefits, today announced the official opening of applications for the 2027 Best Workplaces for Commuters list.

    Beginning June 1, 2026, employers, universities, colleges, commercial sites, and residential communities are invited to apply for this prestigious designation. Participants join a growing national network of hundreds of recognized worksites and communities across the country committed to advancing smarter, safer, and more sustainable transportation solutions. During 2027, BWC will celebrate its 20-year anniversary hosted by the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR). Over two decades, BWC has expanded its reach and impact, helping organizations nationwide implement commuter benefits that reduce congestion, lower transportation costs, and improve access to reliable travel options.

    “Best Workplaces for Commuters is more than a recognition program, it’s a platform for innovation and collaboration,” said Julie Bond, Program Director.   "As we celebrate 20 years of BWC, we’re proud to build on that legacy while helping organizations lead the next generation of commuter solutions.”

    Expanding Impact Through Innovation and Engagement

    As the program enters the 2027 cycle, Best Workplaces for Commuters continues to evolve, building on recent momentum to deepen engagement, expand technical support, and highlight emerging transportation solutions.

    Over the past year, BWC has increased its focus on knowledge-sharing and professional development, delivering webinars, peer exchanges, and national conversations that help organizations stay ahead of rapidly changing trends such as electrification, hybrid work, micromobility, and roadway safety.

    To officially launch the 2027 season, BWC will launch a live Opening Day Celebration webinar, hosted by the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation’s #1 state for Best Workplaces for Commuters participation:

    The event will celebrate national leadership in commuter benefits, highlight Virginia’s model for statewide engagement, feature partners from across the U.S. and Canada, and mark the official start of the 2027 application cycle. “Virginia is proud to lead the nation in advancing commuter-friendly workplaces,” said Chris Arabia, Manager of Statewide Commuter Programs, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. “Our partnership with Best Workplaces for Commuters reflects our commitment to expanding transportation options, strengthening our workforce, and supporting employers who are creating more accessible and sustainable ways to get to work.”

    The 82 Alliance, a not-for-profit mobility think tank reimagining how people move throughout our communities, would like to welcome and recognize Julie Bond, Director of the Transportation Options Program at the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR).

    She leads nationally recognized initiatives focused on transportation demand management (TDM), commuter benefits, workplace mobility strategies, and safety outreach. Julie also serves as Program Director for Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC), a role she has held since 2007. In this capacity, she works with employers nationwide to advance innovative commuting solutions and improve workforce mobility. In addition, she is an instructor for the TDM Professionals Learning Series, helping build capacity and professional expertise across the transportation demand management field.

    Prior to relocating to Florida, Julie worked at the Utah Transit Authority, where she developed foundational experience in public transportation and commuter-focused programs, experience that continues to inform her work in employer-based behavior change and mobility strategies.

    Julie holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Southern Utah University. She has also served as a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) since 2017 and enjoys cycling as much as she enjoys helping others travel safely, efficiently, and sustainably.

    Best Workplaces for Commuters Director’s Awards

    Established in 2026, the Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) Director’s Awards honor exemplary leadership and forward thinking contributions that advance commuter benefits and elevate employer recognition nationwide. Created to spotlight standout achievements across the BWC network, these awards celebrate organizations and individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to expanding mobility options, strengthening transportation demand management (TDM) practices, and supporting a more resilient and competitive economy. Selected by BWC Program Director, Julie Bond, the honorees set a new standard for excellence and embody the collaborative, innovative spirit shaping the future of commuter programs. The awards are presented annually at the BWC Virtual Forum.

    2026 Recipient: TDM Specialists, Inc.

    TDM Specialists, Inc. was honored for its long-standing leadership and national impact in advancing effective transportation demand management strategies. In addition to its technical expertise and support for communities and employers, TDM Specialists led development of the Residential Site category within the Best Workplaces for Commuters program, expanding opportunities for multifamily communities to adopt and showcase strong mobility programs. Their work has broadened the reach of TDM practices, strengthened best in class standards, and helped shape new pathways for employers, commercial sites, and residential communities. Their collaborative approach and commitment to innovation embody the core values celebrated by the Director’s Award.

    2026 Recipient: Marcus Moore, Fairfax County Department of Transportation

    Marcus Moore of the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) received the Director’s Award for his exceptional leadership, community engagement, and dedication to improving commuter mobility and safety. His leadership and engagement with the Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) program exemplify the values recognized by the Director’s Awards, reflecting his dedication to improving mobility and supporting innovative commuter solutions. Fairfax County has been a committed partner of Best Workplaces for Commuters for more than 15 years, supporting employers across the region in meeting national standards of excellence in commuter benefits.
