Universities face complex transportation challenges, from parking demand and transit capacity to changing commuting patterns, multiple campuses, and evolving mobility needs. In this BWC In Focus session, transportation leaders from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and George Mason University share how they use quantitative and qualitative data to improve campus transportation planning, optimize parking and transit services, understand commuter behavior, and support transportation decision-making. The webinar also explores opportunities to automate data collection and analysis, apply artificial intelligence to transportation planning, and use data to anticipate future demand and create more personalized mobility options for students, faculty, and staff.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Identify key quantitative and qualitative data sources that can inform university transportation and commuter program decisions.
• Describe how universities can use parking, transit, bicycle, survey, GIS, and commuter data to identify trends and optimize transportation services.
• Apply data-driven approaches to transportation planning, including targeted outreach, parking management, transit service adjustments, and campus mobility planning.
• Explore emerging applications of automation and artificial intelligence for analyzing transportation data, forecasting demand, and providing more personalized mobility information.

Josh Cantor, Director, Parking & Transportation, George Mason University

Josh directs the University’s transportation program including shuttle operations and TDM programs.  In addition, he is responsible for overseeing the parking services contract, as well as policy development, planning, budget, construction, and special events.

Caryn Walline, Director of Parking Operations, University of Wisconsin-Madison Transportation Services

Caryn Walline is the Director of Parking Operations at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she leads parking management, customer service, and transportation demand management (TDM) programs that support the university’s broader transportation and mobility goals. She brings nearly two decades of experience in transportation, with a career spanning higher education, local government, public transit, and employer-based commute programs.
